The Castle of Otranto - Horace Walpole

A ruling prince who stole his title and is nuttier than a fruitcake

A plethora of princesses

A giant helmet falling from the sky

Other pieces of giant armor popping up all over the place.

A mysterious peasanty appearing young man

A count whose estates were wiped out by pirates so he became a monk

A father sneaking around (I never did fully figure that part out) but willing to sell his daughter.

The maid, Bianca, is the only normal thing in this story.

This was a good read as long as you don't take it too seriously.

However, I don't think the author ever heard a conversation between two women.

Even back then I seriously doubt conversations were that vague and beat around the bushy.

Especially between two women.
